Short Story Contest Winners!

Thank you to all the entrants in Gift of Art’s Short Story Contest

We were overwhelmed by the number of people who took the time to share their short story ideas.

The Following are the winners of the various categories

Child: Ducky by K. Ruhl, Clarington

Youth: The Cat in the Magic Shop by Marina McLaren, Wellandport

Young Adult: Sunny by J. Cole

Adult: Pee-Wee & Ginger’s Trip to Newcastle by Beverly Rose Lynn Thomson, Oshawa

Overall Winner: The Dog Who Ate the Eiffel Tower by Bill Chambers, Oshawa.

The stories were rated by 3 teachers, one reporter and a published poet.

Short Story Contest

The blanket of snow softens the world, providing that restful moment when an active imagination can find a story to tell.

Send that creation to A Gift of Art. 750 words maximum. If chosen as a winner your story will be published both in the Orono Weekly Times and on A Gift of Art’s website.

Details and Contest Rules

Theme: Animals: pets, wild, interactions, funny, scary, mysterious

Categories include:

    • Children up to 12
    • Youth ages 13 – 17
    • Young adults 18 – 25
    • Adult 25+

Rules:

    • Submit a short story of no more than 750 words.
    • All rights of ownership remain the property of the author.
    • Entries must be original and never previously published works.
    • Limited to 3 entries per person
    • Contest is open to all Ontario residents.
    • If delivered to A Gift of Art’s gallery, stories must be double-spaced typed.
    • Stories can be submitted online if they are copy-pasted from your digital file. Please do not submit Word documents or other file types. Submissions may be made online using the Submit Your Story button below or emailed to [email protected], with the following information:
      Name, Address, Phone number & Email
      MUST state Category:
      Child, Youth, Young Adult, Adult
    • Deadline is 5:00 p.m. February 22, 2023
    • Entries will be judged solely on artistic merit. Decisions of the judges* are final and binding.
    • Winner will be announced on February 25, 2023 on A Gift of Art Website. Prizes will be awarded on February 27, 2023
    • All winning short stories will be published in the Orono Weekly Times and will be available to read online at www.agiftof-art.com for several weeks, once the winners have been notified.
    • The overall grand prize will be $250.00
    • Individual categories will have a first prize of $50.00

*Judges will consist of two locally published authors, and a newspaper reporter
