Julieta Cortes

In order to better support our artists, we have enlisted videographer James Dobos to shoot introductory videos which we are posting to the website to help you get better acquainted with the diverse community that makes up A Gift of Art.

Julieta Cortes

Julieta started painting in Acrylics at the end of 2012, however following a watercolour class in 2013, fell in love with this medium. It is a challenging medium but very rewarding. In the majority of her work she tries to capture a sense of light. She takes pictures during morning walks and photographs of birds and still life at home, but flowers are her favourite subject.

Julieta belongs to the Oshawa Artist Association, and participated on the 50th Anniversary Juried Show as well as in a collective project “La Loteria Mexicana Reinterpretada” along with 54 other artist from nine different countries. Julieta’s card was #19 La Garza. The complete project was exhibited in Huelva, Spain and in Mexico, Michoacan and Mexico City. Since 2015 she has participated on the Peony Festival in Oshawa where public vote for the artwork, and placed second in 2016. Julieta has participated as a vendor during the festival since 2016. Her art work “Kissed by the Sun” was featured on the Peony Festival’s Postcard. Her art work “Cold ONE” entry for the ONE Condoms “Do it for Canada” contest was a Staff Pick Winner in 2017.

Julieta began teaching Beginner Watercolour at A Gift of Art in Newcastle in February 2020.

Always looking to improve her skills, Julieta continues taking lessons and workshops with local artists and online courses.

Julieta is a good teacher! There are remarkable works of art here! Please pass on my congratulations for a job well done!
