Welcome to this popular class. Peter Martin will help you gain a better understanding of the beauty and techniques used in the ancient Inuit art form of soapstone carving. With Peter’s guidance, you will learn how to turn a rough cut piece of soapstone into a beautiful carving of a stylized rabbit. There is no requirement to know how to carve but some hand strength is advisable.

Member Cost: $90
Non-Member: $120
Material Kit: $30 paid directly to the instructor

Meet your instructor

Peter began the serious pursuit of his former hobby when he retired in 2007. Since that time he has developed his skills by creating small and medium size works of art in several different varieties of Soapstone and Alabaster with considerable success.

His inspiration comes primarily from nature but he also likes to re-create more whimsical pieces that will be sure to bring a smile to those who choose to purchase his work…
