Each year the Mayor of Clarington hosts a Gala at the Clarington Library. It is a glittery affair with everyone dressed to the nines, food and drink everywhere you turn and wonderful entertainment. Often the local dance school provides a spectacular display and local musicians keep everyone tapping their toes.

Sponsorships are sought and the final tally after expenses is shared by A Gift of Art in Newcastle and the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington located in Bowmanville. Two organizations that are dedicated to the Arts although from fairly different perspectives. A Gift of Art promotes and supports local artists only while the Visual Arts Centre is a formal gallery offering exhibitions by well known talent from near and far.

This year several items were missing. There was no Silent Auction and no table filled with secret boxes each containing a gift valued at over $25.00.

Usually at least 10 of A Gift of Arts artists spend the evening of the Gala demonstrating their skills and encouraging the visitors to drop by the gallery and perhaps take a course. This year that couldn’t happen however thanks to James Dobos who spent last summer creating videos of several of A Gift of Arts artists we were able to include a smattering of those videos in the piece we produced for the Gala’s virtual event.

Our video was partially filmed by one of our students Bea Quitilen, then Emily Buckley took that slice, added James Dobos videos and scoured our archives for additional footage and photos to include. We are very grateful to all three for producing a terrific product that we hope you will enjoy

Additional footage of our artists may be found here on the website.

We hope you enjoy the Virtual Gala!
